Dr. Bella Phan is an enthusiastic and patient-centered optometrist completing her residency in Low Vision Rehabilitation at the University of Waterloo. This training to improve visual function of patients with macular degeneration, glaucoma, post-stroke and many other conditions has given her a strong base of ocular disease management.
Her interest in low vision care was sparked by the opportunity to improve quality of life through functional, goal-oriented care—especially for those for whom regular glasses are no longer enough. Even for patients with normal vision or mild issues, her training in low vision has enhanced her ability to solve visual challenges in creative ways—whether it’s optimizing comfort for screen use, reducing glare, or finding tailored tools for reading and work tasks.
Dr. Phan is passionate about making eye care approachable and empowering. She believes every patient deserves to understand their eye health and leave each visit with tools that meet their specific visual goals—whether that means an optimized glasses prescription or low vision devices for reading and daily living.
Outside of clinic, she enjoys reading fantasy novels and getting 10,000 steps a day by walking around the city while planting flowers on the Pikmin Bloom app.
