We are an eye care practice. It would be a poor showing if our website were hard to read, so we treat accessibility as part of building the site rather than as a checklist at the end. This page describes what we have done, what we know is still outstanding, and how to reach us if something on this site does not work for you.
What this site does
Text contrast is measured, not estimated. Every piece of text on this site is checked against the colour actually behind it, not against an assumed white background, and must reach at least 4.5:1, or 3:1 for large text. A change that introduces text below that threshold fails our checks before it can be published.
Text is text. Addresses, phone numbers and opening hours are real text on the page, never pictures of text. They can be selected, enlarged, read aloud and translated.
Every content image carries a text description, so a screen reader has something to say where a photograph is.
Links and buttons are big enough to hit. Touch targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels, so they can be used reliably on a phone.
Nothing moves on its own. No carousels, no auto-playing video, no animation that starts without you asking for it.
Each page has one main heading. Every one of the site’s published pages has exactly one, so a page can be navigated by structure rather than by scrolling.
Where we know we fall short
We would rather list these than claim they do not exist.
- We have not yet had this site tested by people who use screen readers daily. Automated checks find a great deal, but they are not the same thing.
If something does not work for you
We would like to know, and we will fix it. If any part of this site is difficult to use, or if you need information from it in a different format, email info@torontoeyecare.com or call either clinic:
